An internationally renowned Wolstanton-born artist, recognised among city’s top 100 most influential figures, has consigned a unique piece to Potteries Auctions.
In a tribute to Stoke-on-Trent’s centenary celebrations, ceramicist Lorna Bailey has created a one-off commemorative vase that will go under the hammer at Potteries Auctions this November.
The piece captures both contemporary artistry and civic pride, created by an artist who was one of eight ceramicists to receive recognition from Stoke-on-Trent City Centre BID as among the top 100 most influential people in the city’s 100-year history.
Ms Bailey said she was inspired to create the piece following her inclusion in the list.
“It’s a big honour, and I felt really humbled to be chosen as one of the most influential people from Stoke,” she said.
“It’s wonderful to know people thought of me and deemed my work worthy of the recognition.”
The timing of the auction piece coincides with the recent unveiling of the ceramic mural “100 Years, 100 Faces” in September, a living tribute featuring Ms Bailey’s face alongside other luminaries who have shaped the city’s heritage.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how the vase does at auction. There’s already been interest in the piece, so I’m hopeful someone will be able to win this vase and cherish it.”
Bill Buckley, managing director of Potteries Auctions, noted the significance of this piece.
“We’re really pleased that Lorna chose to consign this commemorative work with us. Our collector base continues to grow with people who can’t get enough of her designs.”
The auction house anticipates strong bidding from both domestic and international collectors.
“There’s genuine potential for this vase to find its way to an international collector,” Mr Buckley said.
“There’s a global appeal to Lorna’s pieces, as we regularly sell her pieces to places like Australia and the United States.”
The one-off vase will be featured in the auction house’s rare pottery, jewellery and collectables auction, taking place on Friday 7th and Saturday, 8th November.
Public viewing is Wednesday 5th and Thursday, 6th November at the Silverdale Saleroom, Silverdale Enterprise Park, Newcastle-under-Lyme, (ST5 6SS). Call 01782 638 100, email enquiries@potteriesauctions.com or visit the website (potteriesauctions.com) for lots more information.
