More than 2,900 nominations were received from homes and hospitals across the UK. Th company said all entries were “a very high standard” and Mr Mason said he was “over the moon” to have been named the winner for the chef of the year for the north division.

He will join winners from across the UK at an awards event in October to discover if he has won a national award.
