Scheme appeals for local drivers

A charity is urgently seeking volunteers from across the Moorlands.

Moorlands Voluntary and Community Transport needs more drivers, especially in and around Biddulph, Leek and Cheadle, to help meet the increasing demand for its voluntary transport scheme.

Chief officer Sally Bentley said: “We are looking for people who enjoy driving, have some time to spare, and want to help others. As a volunteer you would use your own car to take primarily older people to a variety of medical appointments. You will receive expenses and can give whatever amount of time you choose.”

She added that there had been a “significant increase” in the number of local people needing to attend health-related appointments and said it was “vitally important” that the service helped to meet this need.
