Family final avoided in president’s comp

Congleton Lawn Tennis Club’s 2021 President’s Trophy took place on Sunday, with the players enjoying perfect tennis weather, and the sun shining throughout.

After six rounds of timed tennis, the semi-finals were played as championship tie-breaks and both were very close affairs.

Nick Wilkins and Vicky Garner defeated Kieron Beeston and Jane Cummings 13-11 in the first semi, while in the second Simon McAsey and Maureen Taylor defeated Luke Coltman and Claire Wilkins 10-8 A Wilkins family face off was averted!

In the final, Wilkins and Garner defeated McAsey and Taylor to secure the prizes of M&S prosecco and Belgian chocolates courtesy of sponsors Barking Mad – thanks went to club member and owner Becky Spall for providing such great prizes again.

Club chair Rob Mcninch presented the prizes to the winners, having thanked the sponsors and the event organisers Andrew Giltrap and Kerry Hall. He also reminded the players of the next event, the Chairman’s Trophy on 23rd May, which will be sponsored by For You Cakes. Cong Bear will also be in attendance.
