Tennis served up on first open day

Wednesday, 2nd June sees the first national U3A day, which will celebrate the learning, activity and fun that happens every day in University of the Third Ages across the country. Congleton and District U3A was formed in 1998 and membership now stands at approximately 1,300.

To celebrate U3A Day, the Congleton U3A tennis group, which meets weekly and is run by Sue Stanmore and Les Clarke, will be holding its annual tournament on 2nd June at Congleton Lawn Tennis Club.

Members of the public are welcome to go along and watch play, chat with U3A members and learn more about what the organisation has to offer.

The event starts at 9.30am and tea/coffee will be available from 10am-noon.

The tournament has been sponsored by one of the club partners, Barre Sculpt, which is based opposite the club; thanks went to them for their support.

Ms Stanmore said she had decided to take the opportunity to also raise funds for the Christie at Macclesfield appeal, and aswell as refreshments there will be a raffle and a few plants for sale. All money taken will go to this worthy cause.

Anyone who can’t make it on the day but would like to support the fundraising can call Sue Stanmore on 07510 633 255.
