Youth Theatre to present ‘Frozen Junior’ musical

Congleton Amateur Youth Theatre will bring “Frozen Jr” the musical to the town’s Daneside Theatre this May.

With rights to the adaptation of the West End hit musical only available since last year, this will be an early chance to see the stage reworking of the modern Disney classic.

“Frozen Jr” is based on the 2018 Broadway and West End musical, and brings Elsa, Anna, and the magical land of Arendelle to life, onstage. The show features all of the memorable songs from the animated film, with music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, plus five new songs written for the Broadway and West End production.

A story of true love and acceptance between sisters, “Frozen Jr” expands upon the emotional relationship and journey between Princesses Anna and Elsa. When faced with danger, the two discover their hidden potential and the powerful bond of sisterhood.

Focused, like the film, on the fortunes of sisters Anna and Elsa and the battle of the elder sister to control and come to terms with her ice powers, “Frozen Jr” opens at the Daneside Theatre on Wednesday, 15th May and runs until Saturday, 18th May. It will feature the youth theatre’s cast, who are aged between nine and 17.

Directed by Will Vickers, with the support of musical director Ben Evans-Clarke, “Frozen Jr” will showcase the talent within Congleton Amateur Youth Theatre.

Promising “magic, adventure and plenty of humour”, it’s a family show and ideal for anyone aged five and over to enjoy.

Mr Vickers said: “This is a great opportunity to see the musical version of ‘Frozen’, and will absolutely appeal to fans of the film as well as musical fans in general.

“The cast has been working hard since the start of the year and we’re looking forward to seeing that quality delivered on stage. With so many big, well-known musical numbers this musical should be a real crowd-pleaser and the cast already sounds amazing.

“It will be great to see as many people as possible turn out to show their support for the youth theatre – and enjoy this fantastic show.”

Congleton Youth Theatre is a volunteer-led organisation that opens up the chance for local youngsters to take part in plays and musicals across the year.

Tickets for the show cost £12 and are available online from Ticketsource, or via Congleton Information Centre in the town hall foyer (01260 270 350).
